Can eating the right foods relieve RA symptoms?
Can eating the right foods relieve rheumatoid arthritis symptoms?
Some research shows that fish oils reduce joint inflammation – but the unfortunate reality is that despite years of study, no conclusive evidence shows that any foods make rheumatoid arthritis symptoms flare up or decrease.
In other words, there is no effective “rheumatoid arthritis diet.” Research does show that weight reduction does help, since being overweight causes extra stress on RA sufferers’ weight-bearing joints. That increases joint pain, stiffness and inflammation.
Beyond that, each patient is different. While there is no rheumatoid arthritis diet, doctors do advise patients to avoid any food that seems to make symptoms worse. At the same time, they caution against fad diets, such as excluding whole food groups. For example, a popular misconception is that gluten, found in wheat, is detrimental to RA. No research backs up such a claim. Nevertheless, scores of RA patients are shunning wheat products.
Researchers at the University of Oslo in Norway have studied food-related antibodies (proteins that defend the body as part of the immune system) as relate to the rheumatoid arthritis diet. They discovered that RA patients’ intestinal fluids had higher levels of proteins from milk, cereal, eggs, fish and pork than the general population.
Food allergies happen when your body mistakenly detects that something you’ve eaten is harmful. Immunoglobulin E antibodies come to your defense, setting off a chain reaction that causes such symptoms as joint aches, swelling and rashes.
One theory is that antibodies and some proteins form immune complexes in the patient’s intestine. These circulate throughout the body, causing joint inflammation. The body remembers and reacts the next time that you eat the food that caused the problem.
The obvious solution for RA patients is to avoid foods that seem to make their condition worse. On the other hand, if certain foods help a patient’s symptoms to improve, it only makes sense to adjust your diet accordingly.
However, according to the Arthritis Foundation, there’s no recommended “arthritis diet.”
Nevertheless, almost half of all people with rheumatoid arthritis report that they feel better from excluding “suspect” foods that they are convinced made things worse.
Saturated fats may increase inflammation in some people. So, RA sufferers may want to steer clear of bacon, steak, butter, and cream, which may possibly increase prostaglandins in the body, which some doctors believe cause inflammation, pain, swelling, and joint destruction in rheumatoid arthritis.
Other findings show that meat may be detrimental to RA patients since it contains high amounts of arachidonic acid, a fatty acid that the body converts to prostaglandins. As a result, some rheumatoid arthritis sufferers insist that a vegetarian diet has made their lives more livable. However, other RA patients report receiving no benefit whatsoever from a meatless diet – except for inconvenience.
What about Omega-6 fatty acids found in corn oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil, wheat germ oil, and sesame oil? They contain linoleic acid. Some nutritionists believe that consuming too much Omega-6 fatty acids may provoke rheumatoid arthritis.
And the list goes on.
The bottom line is: What works for you?
How Rheumatoid Arthritis is a Life Long Struggle
There is no shortage of rheumatoid arthritis treatments. A great many researchers are working on ways to relieve the pain, disfigurement and discomfort of RA. But doctors say there is no cure! However, there is hope.
In recent years, researchers have developed a number of treatments that make life easier for the RA patient. The goal is to provide as normal a life as possible for the sufferer with the lowest level of discomfort, disfigurement and interruption of a normal life.
Until a cure is found, doctors find themselves minimizing joint damage, disfigurement and pain while enhancing the patient’s ability to engage in enjoy a quality lifestyle. Doctors have also learned that it’s far easier for the patient if families and loved ones understand what is happening – that is, the nature of RA.
So, what can actually be done? Three classes of drugs are usually utilized for rheumatoid arthritis treatments:
1) non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents (or NSAIDs),
2) disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (or DMARDs) and.
3) corticosteroids.
The major benefit of NSAIDs is to relieve inflammation. That decreases pain and improves function. However, NSAIDs alone can’t change the course of the disease nor prevent destruction of the affected joints.
For years, aspirin was the primary treatment – and still relieves pain quite effectively. However, it often causes stomach discomfort and has to be taken repeatedly during the day. Thus, many doctors have replaced it with other NSAIDs.
Fortunately, there are quite a few to choose from.
Over-the-counter NSAIDs include naproxen sodium (such as Alleve®) and ibuprofen (such as Advil®, Motrin® and Nuprin®.
Prescription NSAIDs include choline magnesium salicylate (Trilasate®), diclofenac (Cataflam®, Voltaren®, Arthrotec®), diflusinal (Dolobid®), etodolac (Lodine®), indomethicin (Indocin®), ketoprofen (Orudis®, Oruvail®), meloxicam (Mobic®), nabumetone (Relafen®), oxaprozin (Daypro®), piroxicam (Feldene®), sulindac (Clinoril®) and tolementin (Tolectin®).
Many patients prefer naproxen sodium since it can be taken once every 12 hours – rather than four times a day as with some of the others.
NSAIDs provide quick but short-term help.
DMARDs can take several weeks or months. Among those most commonly used are abatacept (Orencia®), adalimumab (Humira®), anakinra (Kineret®), antimalarials, azathioprine (Imuran), cyclophosphamide cyclosporin A, d-penicillamine, etanercept (Enbrel®), gold salts, infliximab (Remicade®), leflunomide (Arava®), methotrexate, rituximab (Rituxan®) and sulfasalazine.
Most are very effective in preventing cartilage damage and the bone erosions that can come as early as during the first two years of the disease. As a result, many doctors prescribe a DMARD as soon as RA is diagnosed.
But since DMARDs can be so slow acting, aspirin and other analgesics are also taken since they are so effective in decreasing pain – but not in stopping the disease’s progression.
So, NSAIDs are taken to ease discomfort, particularly until DMARDs take effect.
Corticosteroids are the third category of drugs used with RA. These are often prescribed for patients with severe cases who aren’t responding to NSAIDs or DMARDs. However, there are side effects such as weight gain, puffiness around the face, redness of the cheeks, and even such oddities as the development of a “buffalo hump” over the neck.
Any rheumatoid arthritis sufferer is wise to stay current of new developments – and to ask their doctor whether this or that “wonder treatment” on the internet actually works.
The truth about rheumatoid arthritis cures
Has a cure for rheumatoid arthritis finally been found? A quick look around the internet finds scores of over-the-counter medications guaranteed to bring relief! Keep looking and you’ll find more prescription medicines, new medical procedures, announcements of new surgical procedures and natural herb supplements than you can imagine.
All claim to effectively treat RA. Some use the term “miraculous.”
Among them are a $50,000-per-innoculation under development by scientists at England’s Newcastle University. A custom vaccine will be individually engineered for each patient.
Such a rheumatoid arthritis cure will have to halt what RA does – turning the sufferer’s immune system against his or her own body, attacking the patient’s joints. If the vaccine is approved, technicians will harvest white blood cells from each patient. Cells will be “reprogrammed” by therapy that includes a patented cocktail of Vitamin D, steroids and other compounds. The altered cells will be injected into one of the patient’s arthritis-inflamed joints – with the expectation that the altered white blood cells will suppress the immune system’s attacks on the sufferer’s own body.
If it works, a historic rheumatoid arthritis cure will come in a single dose.
The target date for use on humans is 2013.
But will such a rheumatoid arthritis treatment work? Or will it destroy patients’ immune systems, making them susceptible to infection? If it does work, will its effectiveness wear off, requiring additional $50,000 treatments?
And who will this shot help? Only those who haven’t developed full-blown RA yet? Or just those with mild cases? Will the effect only be localized – requiring expensive vaccinations to every affected joint? Will it work for patients with advanced cases? Will there be side effects?
While the prospect is exciting, RA sufferers have heard it all before. There are so many rheumatoid arthritis cures and treatments out there that it’s easy to get cynical. Physicians state bluntly that there’s no cure. But they may also suggest ideas that have worked for others.
One is to put up a high fence and sunbathe au natural in your own back yard. Preposterous? No, rheumatoid arthritis responds well to sunshine! When sunlight falls on your bare skin, your body creates its own vitamin D, which works far better than any health food supplement or daily multivitamin.
Fifteen minutes in the sun three times weekly gives most patients a potent dose of vitamin D. Will more sunshine help? The best advice is to take it slowly – five minutes at a time for the first week, extending to 20 minutes until you have a nice “base tan.” Then you may find yourself sunbathing for an hour or more at a time. Some rheumatoid arthritis patients say the treatment is addictive! Plus, it’s free!
Other rheumatoid arthritis treatments include regular doses of omega-3 fatty acid, gamma-linolenic acid and Boswellia. Similar success is reported with glucosamine chondroitin, ginger, magnesium, copper supplements, beta-carotene rich foods, vegetarian diets, curcumin, green tea extract, guggul, lyprinol, folic acid as well as large doses of vitamin B6, C, and E.
Some sufferers say their condition eased when they quit smoking, cut back on coffee … and drank small “doses” of alcohol! The bottom line? Until scientists announce a miracle cure, the rheumatoid arthritis sufferer needs to keep reading, keep experimenting to find what works – and avoid feelings of being overwhelmed. There is hope!
Can Lupus Autoimmune Disease Be Cured?
This autoimmune disease is one where the autoimmune system in the body fails to an extent. How this happens is that the body becomes unable to identify the difference between the healthy tissues in the body and a virus or bacteria. Therefore, instead of producing antibodies to attack these bacteria, the antibodies produced attack the healthy tissues in the body especially around joints and organs, resulting in various complications.
It is common knowledge that lupus affects more women than men. Many researchers say this is due to the hormone estrogen in the female body. It is thought to be a hereditary disease, but can also be triggered by external factors that cause the autoimmune system to function in this manner. The real cause is yet to be identified. It is also common among young children.
There are several types of lupus and the symptoms may vary from person to person. The symptoms may include shortness of breath, loss of appetite, hair loss, fever, fatigue and most importantly rashes on the skin or sores in the mouth. Although these symptoms can also relate to other diseases, going to a doctor as soon as you notice them would help the doctor diagnose the problem with the help of a few tests and often a few physical examinations. Lupus is known to affect major organs in the body such as the heart and the kidneys and can also with time affect your central nervous system.
There is no cure for lupus or rheumatoid arthritis, however it is important to keep in mind that there are several forms of treatment that would help a patient lead a normal life and resume daily activities. As hard as this may seem at first, with time and effort, you will learn to get back to your normal ways in spite of the diseases. To help you cope with this there are several support groups based on the age group to help the patient deal with stress, and emotional and psychological effect of the illness. Joining a support group has several advantages as the patient suffering from similar problems would have the chance of meeting several other patients and could be motivated to lead a normal lifestyle. One may often get very frustrated and lose his/temper and be very stressed as a result of all that comes with the pain.
You need to keep in mind however that when it comes to lupus rheumatoid arthritis, simply going for regular checkups and taking prescribed medication is not enough. You too would need to make an effort by asking your doctor what sort of diet you need to follow to reduce the severity of your symptoms and also make other necessary changes in lifestyle to accommodate the disease and the fact that it could impede some of your work. Once you learn to accept this, dealing with rheumatoid arthritis will become relatively easy. Always talk to a close friend or member of your family if you have any problems.

What is lupus rheumatoid arthritis?
What is lupus rheumatoid arthritis?
Basically, it’s a disease that affects the joints in the body. Usually it tends to affect the joints in your hands and feet in particular. It should be known that although it is commonly thought that rheumatoid arthritis affects the old, this is not always the case. It could also affect the young, and even children. What generally happens here is that the autoimmune system attacks its own body tissues and as a result causes inflammation and swelling in the tissues surrounding these joints. Some researchers have found that lupus can be passed genetically. So if one of your parents have it, it is possible that you may suffer from it too.
How to deal with the disease
Good treatment for lupus would also include awareness and education about the illness. There are several support groups that you can join to help you through this difficult period. They help you overcome most of the problems that accompany the sickness, such as psychological and emotional issues as well as stress.
Here people with the same or similar problems discuss their stories, thereby providing inspiration and motivating each other to get through this. Support groups are not just for patients. It is for the patients’ family members and friends as well, as they too need guidance and support to help in making the life of the patient more comfortable and being more sensitive to their needs and issues.
Living with lupus isn’t easy, so joining a support group would be of great help. There are special support groups for juveniles suffering as well.
As most people feel lethargic and are unable to carry on with their daily activities as a result of the pain and swelling, doctors would help you get active in order to lead a normal life without letting it get in the way of your work. People who suffer from rheumatoid arthritis in the knee often find it difficult to walk, while if it’s the hand then writing, typing and other tasks become a huge burden, resulting in many having to give up work. This of course depends on what type of work he/she is involved in and what the job entails. Your doctor would probably prescribe some form of medication to help you with this.
There are several surgical procedures that you could consider if the symptoms get worse.
You would also need to consider a change of lifestyle. This is to ensure that you do not add to the stress that you may already suffer from due to the joint pains and the inability to do simple tasks.
It is natural for one to feel angry and often frustrated due to the disease. However always keep in mind that you have to be strong if you are to get through this and lead a normal happy life. It is not impossible. It is always best to talk to someone, whether it is a friend or a member of your family.

Risk Factors of Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis is a condition that causes severe inflammation of the joints such as ankles, knees, hips and hands to name a few. Far more likely to occur in women than men, this usually strikes adults and may depend on a host of factors. There is no known cure for the condition and treatment is focused on relieving the acute pain that accompanies it and on reducing its progress. The disease also causes stiffness and can result in severe restrictions to an affected person’s mobility.
There are several risk factors for the condition. Numerous research findings and studies have and continue to indicate a connection between genetics and Rheumatoid arthritis . It can occur in about 1% of the population and it is believed that if and where the condition is prevalent in a family, it is likely to affect more family members. In addition to the genetic factor, the environment where one lives and grows up in can also increase the risk factors. For example a work environment that is heavy on routines and repetitive actions are known to increase the risk factor for rheumatoid arthritis. So does an environment with cigarette smoke. Both the habit of smoking as well as passive smoke is considered as a risk factor that could contribute to a person developing rheumatoid arthritis or exacerbate the condition from moderate to severe.
A person’s ethnic background could also lead to higher levels of risk for the disease. It is believed that Caucasian people and some Native American tribes in particular have a higher chance of being affected by this illness.
Weight is yet another and often decisive factor that increases the risk. The logic behind it is much simpler to understand. Being overweight can place significant amounts of excessive pressure on joints such as knees, ankles and hips. It is believed that a mere pound in excess of the suitable body weight could increase the pressure on the joints by about three to five times. Given this fact, the more overweight a person is the higher the risk of developing the condition. Weight will also compound the state of the condition in a person already suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. As such it is recommended that particular attention is paid to weight with regard to the disease. This can be negated by a proper evaluation of one’s diet whereby weight enhancing food items can be struck off the menu and a healthier and wholesome diet plan followed.
A person’s immune system may also play a role in increased risks of the illness. According to various sources it is believed that 70 to 80 percent of those with the disease also show increased levels of the rheumatoid factor antibody. This antibody is rarely found on those who are free of the condition. This may signal an immune system abnormality that could lead to Rheumatoid arthritis . The fact that quite a number of people also develop this subsequent to an illness or infection is more proof of the immune systems role here.
Genetics and Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis is a condition that can cause chronic inflammation of joints such as knees, hands, ankles and hips. It can also cause a number of other complications throughout the body and is a condition that is widely regarded as incurable. It causes both pain and stiffness of joints that can together affect a person’s mobility levels and ability to get about life in a normal manner. When we consider the role of genetics in causing rheumatoid arthritis we must also consider the fact that the condition is more likely to occur in women than men. In fact it is likely to occur up to three to four times more in women than in men. It is also mostly detected in those over the ages of 40, while people younger than that can also be affected.
When discussing genetics and rheumatoid arthritis it must be said that there is no conclusive evidence to prove that genetics play a definite role in deciding whether a person has a higher chance of being affected by it or not. However recent research studies have indicated at least a strong correlation between certain genes and the condition.
Key among them is the gene that is most strongly identified with it. This susceptible gene is found in the HLA region and is referred to as the ‘shared epitope’. Additional research also suggests that the gene, PTPN22, is also strongly associated with the rheumatoid arthritis, and is said to double a person’s chance of being affected by the condition. Certain other types of genes are also believed to significantly increase the risk of rheumatoid arthritis but the amount of definite evidence is few and far in between.
As pointed out by researchers it is not sufficient to know what genes can decide the risk factor of a person being struck down by a complex disease such as this. When considering genetics and rheumatoid arthritis all we know now is that there might be a connection, but not how definite or strong that connection is. We are also still not in a position to work on these connections and transform that knowledge into affective treatment. What this does allow however is an insight to who amongst us is more susceptible to be affected by this disease as a result of the genes we carry.
If the genes most strongly tied to the disease are detected then it’s best to watch out for symptoms of the condition. Primarily symptoms include pain that affects joints and stiffness of joints especially in the morning. Because rheumatoid arthritis can also affect other organs of the body, it is wise to watch out for a series of other symptoms that include fatigue, shortness of breath and loss of appetite. Complications arising from the condition can also cause gritty and dry eyes that can ultimately result in loss of vision, rheumatoid nodules under skin and in and around the lung, cardiovascular complications that could increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes as well.

How Proteolytic Enzymes Work For RA
Proteolytic Enzymes are commonly known as proteases which work in harmony with body mechanics to break down proteins. Trypsin from the pancreas, papain and bromelain are three common examples for Proteolytic Enzymes.
When it comes to rheumatoid arthritis, Proteolytic Enzymes are known to work positively by breaking down complex components that build up between antibodies and antigens. Rheumatoid arthritis being an autoimmune system disease benefit through proteases because it facilitates and eases the body mechanics that gets congested due to inflammations that are caused by rheumatoid arthritis.
Proteolytic Enzymes is known to contain anti inflammatory properties and therefore, scientists look hopeful on the fact of being able to use it in order to relieve pain from rheumatoid arthritis sufferers. And who could predict, maybe it could even cure the condition up to a certain extent?
There’s also a theory which is yet to be proven that states proteases has the ability to dismantle a fibrin mantle that builds itself around affected areas of the immune system caused by rheumatoid conditions. If this notion is true and if Proteolytic Enzymes can actually make a break through, we can consider ourselves to be very much near a new discovery of a rheumatoid arthritis cure because breaking down the fibrin mantle will mean that the immune system can once again; resume its normal duties relieving pain and all other symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. However, all this will be possible only if the suspected root cause of rheumatoid arthritis is true and accurate.
Although the theory sounds simple enough, putting it in to practice is not. After all, experiments will need to be longitudinal in nature in order to determine the proper outcomes. Therefore, perhaps we should not get too excited. Instead, let’s try to figure out how best we could use proteases for our advantage.
Contrary to the popular myth, Proteolytic Enzymes do not have to be derived from food because our bodies are known to be capable of manufacturing enough of it to suffice body functions. But Proteolytic Enzymes deficiencies do come about giving rise to various illnesses including pancreatic diseases.
If you suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, it is a good idea to seek professional advice with regards to using a supplement for proteases. Not many traditional medical practitioners will approve you to follow this experimental path however, if you find someone who’s willing to support your journey with Proteolytic Enzymes, you may be able to find out the results for yourself.
Living with rheumatoid arthritis is a challenge and getting in to different types of treatments for RA is no second to challenges posed by the disease, itself. Therefore, if you are willing to take a risk, face the challenges in a positive light and move on with whatever circumstances that you may confront in life, enzyme therapy for Proteolytic Enzymes may be the right choice for you.
Before you proceed any further, make it a point to read further more on the topic – purchase a few ebooks on the subject if possible and educate yourself on the matter so that you know what to expect and what not to.

Energy In The Universe: Do You Have Any Clue On Curing My Pain?
Energy In The Universe: Do You Have Any Clue On Curing My Pain?
What is stronger? The body or the mind? If the mind can do what medicine cannot…why do we end up at hospitals and clinics every now and then for eternally life bound diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis? If the universe has answers for everything, where is the answer on how to overcome your condition or heal you completely?
We are not taking you through a philosophy class; rather we’d like to pique your interest on to a different dimension of healing from diseases. Did you know that every one of us can tap in to the endless energy that the universe has to offer? It is common for all of us to consider psychics and natural healers as strange beings; but hold that thought for a second until you get to the bottom of what we are about to reveal…
Sometimes you may feel that marketers and other people in the industry are pushing you too hard to believe paranormal things. Eventually, you end up in a psychological jail where you entrap your mind in to, not believing anything. The chances are that, in doing so, you miss out on the essence of positivity that can be drawn from what the universe has to offer.
We may be living in a high tech world, but we don’t have enough evidence to dismiss ancient wisdom. That is why alternative medicine practices such as Yoga, Reiki, Acupuncture, Ayurveda and Holistic healing work to produce amazing results for any disease.
Although the practices are proven and have been well known for effectiveness from time unknown, you ought to be very careful in dealing with people who offer their help as a service. This is where the homework component comes in to play. A simple search online merely may not be sufficient to recognize the authenticity and qualifications of the service provider. You ought to first, equip yourself with knowledge that will put you at advantage about your condition.
Take rheumatoid arthritis for example. How many millions of people, do you think, suffer from it from around the world? When scientists claim medicine is advanced in its evolutionary process, how is it that no one has ever found a cure for rheumatoid arthritis? Yet, interestingly enough, there are alternative medicines and tools that are used in controlling and eliminating the condition. How so?
Remember! The universe has answers for many things that we don’t. That is why we make this an open invitation for you to explore the world beyond skepticism, pain and suffering. Let’s walk in this path, hand in hand, until you find the answers that you have been looking for, for a life time! This is your moment to unravel the mystery and combat rheumatoid arthritis!
